Ganesha or Ganpati Chathurthi is one of the most celebrated festivals for Hindus, especially in Maharashtra. This year Ganesh Chathurthi is starting from 22nd August and will last for 10 days. People will bring Ganpati Bappa idols in their home and will immerse it on the 10th day with celebration .

Brief Story of Lord Ganesha

Lord Ganesha is also called Vighnahartha (remover of obstacles), is the son of Almighty Lord Mahadeva and Mata Sati. As per Hindu holy ancient books once when Mata Parvati went to take a bath she out of some mud and turmeric paste made a human doll and with her power, she breathed life into this doll and asked this newly formed human to guard at the gates and do not let anyone enter inside.

A few moments later Lord Mahadeva came back and tried to meet Mata Parvati but the boy stopped him from entering.  After moments of arguments lord, Shiva got furious and angry. Lord Shiva in rage lifted his trident and severed the head of the boy.

When Mata Parvati came back from the bath she saw the severed head of the boy she was devasted and then she asked Shiva to bring him back to life. Lord Shiva ordered Nandi (his bull) to bring the head of the first creature he founds in his way. Nandi came back with the head of the elephant calf. Shiva placed the head of the calf on the boy and brought him back to life. But Mata Parvati was skeptical as she thought no one will respect and worship her son because of the human body and elephant head.

Then Lord Shiva asked all gods to bless their son and gave him a boon that he will be worshipped first among other gods and goddesses. Boy was given the name Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles.
